War 2 Movie Review: Hrithik Roshan & Jr NTR’s Action Extravaganza Loses Its Spark
The YRF Spy Universe expands again with War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani. On paper, it had everything—star power, international-scale action, and a director like Ayan Mukerji. But despite the spectacle, the film never finds its emotional core.
Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, Varun Badola
Director: Ayan Mukerji

Runtime: 173 minutes

War 2 Storyline
Kabir (Hrithik Roshan), once India’s top spy, is now a mercenary drawn into the web of a cartel named Kali, comprising villains from neighboring nations. His first mission: assassinate his mentor and father-figure, RAW chief Luthra (Ashutosh Rana). Forced into betrayal, Kabir becomes a fugitive hunted by RAW itself, led by new agent Vikram (Jr NTR).
As Kabir battles enemies across continents, he faces ghosts from his past—an old romance with Kavya (Kiara Advani), his connection to Khalid’s family, and an unexpected revelation that Vikram may be his childhood friend Raghu. Twists pile on twists, but the narrative never manages to hit home.
War 2 Script and Screenplay
The script, credited to Aditya Chopra and Shridhar Raghavan, leans heavily on spectacle while neglecting coherence. Emotional beats—whether Kabir’s relationship with Luthra, his daughter Ruhi, or his love story with Kavya—feel plastic and forced. By the second half, the film dives into an overlong flashback of Kabir and Raghu as street kids, stretching the runtime without adding much depth.
War 2 Performances
Hrithik Roshan gives his best within the limits of the material, but compared to his stellar work in War and Vikram Vedha, this performance feels underwhelming. Jr NTR impresses in select moments, but the writing fails to give him a memorable arc. Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana do their part, but neither gets enough to shine. Varun Badola and the supporting cast remain functional.
War 2 Direction and Music
Ayan Mukerji, known for stylish and layered storytelling (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Brahmastra), seems content letting the technical crew carry this film. The action choreography, VFX, and production scale are impressive, but the heart is missing. Pritam’s songs are forgettable, and the loud background score by Sanchit and Ankit Balhara overwhelms more than it enhances.
War 2 Strengths and Weaknesses
The movie delivers breathtaking action set pieces—train fights, car chases, and explosions galore—but they feel hollow without a gripping story. The constant twists, instead of surprising, become tiring. The emotional weight is weak, making the 173-minute runtime feel stretched.
War 2 Final Verdict
War 2 is a visual spectacle that lacks substance. Despite Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s presence, the weak writing and forced drama pull it down. The film tries to expand the YRF Spy Universe but ends up being more of a cash-in than a compelling story.
